THE HISTORY OF SAPLINBRAE
Saplinbrae has stood proudly in the heart of the Buchan countryside since 1756. Originally built as a Coaching Inn, it later served as a rectory, a country house, and finally became the charming hotel it is today. Steeped in history, Saplinbrae continues to offer warm hospitality, delicious local food, and a peaceful retreat for travellers and guests alike.
How It All Began
STRIVING TO RAISE THE STANDARD
It all started at a kitchen table on our family farm, strewn with paperwork, tea and toast, and our wee boy’s toys. That table was more than a piece of furniture. It was a gathering place for family and friends, filled with stories, laughter, and the comfort of good food and wine.
When we bought Saplinbrae, we knew we wanted to recreate the magic of that table, a place where everyone feels welcome, where meals are shared with love, and where, at the end of the night, guests retire to cosy beds, fuzzy with happiness.
As farmers, hospitality comes naturally to us. We believe in serving delicious, locally sourced food and great drinks to everyone who walks through our doors, always with that all-important smile. At Saplinbrae, we strive to create a space where you can truly feel at home.

Our close-knit team is the heart of Saplinbrae. From the kitchen to the front of house, we work together with a shared passion for creating the highest standards in hospitality. Many of our team members have been with owners Noel and Jo since the early days of their hospitality journey at The Lodge in Strichen in 2011.
